Fury Warrior
Ive noticed that some of our warriors need some guidence so here is a guide.
TALENTS
Titan’s Grip: wowtal.com/#k=BeB4St51.aei.warrior.RDgquh or some variation of it, some talents can be switched around etc according to preference. However, 3/3 Deep Wounds > 3/3 Incite. Mathematical fact, do not go the other way around.
Single-Minded Fury: wowtal.com/#k=BO46DAo7.aei.warrior.RDgquh or similar. 3/3 Incite > 3/3 Deep Wounds. Do not be a maverick.
The Glyphs I have chosen are the vital ones, you shouldn’t miss out any of those. After that its personal choice really.
SINGLE-MINDED FURY
Is now perfectly viable. See the rotation section for the subtle differences.
RUDE INTERRUPTION
Yes, there are some boss encounters without interrupts, however if you look at the other choices, this is the only one that increases damage output at all, there are a few decent alternatives available though if you feel like you don’t want to take Rude Interruption.
TG ROTATION
As we know by now, because of how rage generation works, melee rotations are a lot more, shall we say “flexible” than the caster rotations. There’s a simple rule to follow, first and foremost:
Using something, is better than using nothing.
If for some reason your Cooldowns are off, or you lack the rage or you aren’t enraged and you cannot fill your GCD with the most desirable ability, use something else (A shout is good for filling such gaps).
CS, Bloodthirst, Raging Blow, Slam, Heroic Strike is a basic prio list.
This is the ideal rotation provided your rage generation is good enough, and there are no complications, such as movement, debuffs etc:
0.0 – Colossus Smash
1.5 – Bloodthirst
3.0 – Raging Blow
4.5 – Bloodthirst
6.0 – Slam
7.5 – Bloodthirst
9.0 – Raging Blow
10.5 – Bloodthirst
12.0 – Slam
13.5 – Bloodthirst
15.0 – Raging Blow
16.5 – Bloodthirst
18.0 – Slam
19.5 – Bloodthirst
21.0 – Colossus Smash (start again)
Just remember to go with a Bloodthirst > Raging Blow > Bloodthirst after a Colossus smash as this is the most efficient way of getting 3 High Damage abilities into the 6 second debuff time.
Unlike in WotLK, Bloodsurge proccs grant an Instant, rage-free Slam that deals 20% more damage. However, as a Fury Warrior with Titan’s Grip don’t be fooled into using it whenever it proccs. It should only be used after every 2nd BT in your rotation (see above) so to avoid delaying more effective abilities. If you lack the rage to fill your GCD with the preferred ability, something > nothing so use a Bloodsurge proc.
SMF ROTATION
There are some subtle differences to the SMF priorities and rotations. It goes like this:
CS > BT > Slam > HS > RB
And you should aim to follow this rotation
0.0 -Colossus Smash
1.5- Bloodthirst
3.0 – Slam (Raging Blow if no Bloodsurge, only for a GCD inside CS debuff)
4.5 – Bloodthirst
6.0 – Slam (Use a shout or leave empty if no Bloodsurge)
7.5 – Bloodthirst
9.0 – Slam (Use a shout or leave empty if no Bloodsurge)
10.5 – Bloodthirst
12.0 – Slam (Use a shout or leave empty if no Bloodsurge)
13.5 – Bloodthirst
15.0 – Slam (Use a shout or leave empty if no Bloodsurge)
16.5 – Bloodthirst
18.0 – Slam (Use a shout or leave empty if no Bloodsurge)
19.5 – Bloodthirst
21.0 – go to 0.0 (Colossus Smash)
Raging blow, essentially drops very low on Damage/Rage, low enough to basically render it useless apart from when you want to get 3 abilities inside the Colossus Smash debuff. All rage saved / gained on shouts can be converted into the more efficient Heroic Strike, which is also buffed by your 3/3 Incite talents.
If Battle Trance proccs, and heroic strike and bloodthirst are on cooldown, it is acceptable to use a Raging Blow since it is not eating up any valuable rage.
BOSS < 20%
When the boss falls below 20%, you should still be using Colossus Smash as your number one priority, after that stacking the Executioner buff to 5 Stacks, then stick your usual rotation whilst refreshing the Executioner stacks.
COOLDOWNS
Fury Warrior threat always has been, and probably always will be, particularly high compared to other DPS. So bare that in mind when blowing your cooldowns right at the start of a fight. Ignoring that, you should use them whenever they are available, Death Wish will be usable more than once in most encounters, recklessness might not be and in certain encounters could be saved for a part of the fight that needs a bit of a DPS kick (After an enrage, or during a +Damage phase, or to take down a dangerous add). Using Deathwish in conjunction with Bloodlust or trinket proccs is also nice, and because of how Mastery affects Enrage Effects, if you have a Mastery procc or Use: trinket, using DW with that is very effective.
SHATTERING THROW
It is a great ability to use right before a Bloodlust, particularly if you have alot of Physical DPS in the group, it is a personal DPS loss however, so use with caution (An Arms warrior is the best man for this job as he does not require a stance change as a Fury or Protection Warrior would to use it) Having a “Switch to Battle Stance, then use Shattering Throw” macro keybound or just put somewhere that is easily clickable, is a nice touch.
STAT PRIORITIES
As of 4.0.6 these are the stat priorities for Fury Warriors: Hit to 8% > Expertise to 26 > Strength > Hit/Haste for RageGen [See below] > Crit > Mastery > Hit > Haste.
Having 8% Hit to cap yellow attacks, and no other rage generation stats, will leave you rage starved a lot of the time. Personally I find about ~5% Hit/Haste in addition to the 8% hit is ample.
Notice how much higher Crit and Mastery are than Hit now, Heroic Strike now deals less damage so the excess rage we generate with more Hit is now less valuable.
REFORGING
Follow the stat priorities listed above in a strict order and try and not waste any rating points by overcapping Expertise. To get Reforging as accurate as possible it should be done from scratch, restore everything and begin reforging off excess expertise if you are already overcapped, then haste etc. Reforging isn’t particularly expensive anyway.
ENCHANTING
Below is a list of BiS enchants, followed by the cheaper, next best thing in brackets. Obviously some of these may be replaced by Profession perks.
Head: Arcanum of the Dragonmaw
Shoulders: Greater Incription of Jagged Stone (Inscription of Jagged Stone)
Cloak: +65 Critical Strike (+50 Critical Strike)
Chest: +20 Stats (+15 Stats)
Bracers: +50 Str (+50 Crit)
Gloves: +50 Str (+35 Str)
Legs: Dragonscale Leg Armor (Scorched Leg Armor)
Boots: Lavawalker (Another movement speed enchant or +50 hit)
Mainhand: Landslide (Hurricane)
Offhand: Landslide (Hurricane)
While on the enchant subject – you shouldn’t go for Expertise enchants where you could have strength (Or gems for that matter). If you are uncapped Expertise IS worth more than strength DPSwise, point for point… BUT you can get this from reforging your gear (Remember you can’t reforge to strength)
SUNDER ARMOR
If your Raid Leader wants you to sunder, do it. It is a big DPS gain for the raid if there is nobody else available to do so. Screw your rotation and the DPS race; stack it immediately to full, Glyph of Colossus Smash, Heroic Throw and Furious Sundering are excellent choices if the job of Sundering rests in your hands.
GORRK’S POINTERS (WARNING – MAY RESULT IN DEATHS)
- Get PowerAuras and assign a visual to both Battle Trance and Bloodsurge, you want to use Battle Trance on a HS or an RB if HS is on cooldown. You also definitely don’t want to spend it on a free Slam (yes Bloodsurge consumes Battle trance)
- Berserker Rage does not trigger a Global Cooldown, and the Minor Glyph that makes it instantly generate rage is a must. But use it sparingly as it is an Enrage effect, so using it to activate Raging Blow is very useful. It’s also worth noting that currently, Fury’s Mastery increases the amount of rage generated by this ability.
- Reforged Tank items of a higher iLevel can often be superior to your “DPS” gear.
- PvP gear is a nice source of High-iLevel gear, however note that a large portion of its budget is devoted to Resilience, and this, cannot be reforged.
- Gemming, Stack strength where possible, many socket bonuses may be attractive enough to gem for, you be the judge and put 20STR/20 Crit or 20STR/20Hit in yellows and blues accordingly.
- Having a Swing Timer addon is always useful (particularly with Titan’s Grip) as it allows you to pre-empt your next burst of rage and react accordingly.
And to answer the age-old question – Titan’s Grip and SMF are approximately, and always will be approximately equal, that’s the way they’re designed, sure one might pull ahead of the other now and then so go with whichever weapons you have and feel most comfortable with.
